ow pulse from sensor and calculating data. The measuring CPU exchanges and controls data or information through the process circuit of communication signal and center-control computer. EEPROM: generally, fuel dispenser adopts model 24C16 of EEPROM, which is used for memorizing calculated information, unit price, oil density, etc. The IC chip matched with measuring CPU mainly has the memory chip of calculating data, like HX1215 and 24C16. 2.2 Keyboard At present, there are two types of keyboard used on fuel dispenser, parallel scan keyboard and serial scan keyboard. Different manufacturers employ various model keyboards with these logical units that illustrated in Diagram 3-2, 3-3 and 3-4 in their fuel dispensers. Diagram 3-2: Keyboard sketch map of fuel dispenser Diagram 3-3: Structural sketch map of parallel keyboard Diagram 3-4: Structure sketch map of serial keyboard Liquid crystal displays are adopted in keyboard screen fuel dispenser and main display screen on which showing unit price, volume and sales. The components installed on keyboard varied largely, some manufacturers adopting touch switch, others membrane key or rubber keyboard. Parallel keyboard, high speed with many lines, is restricted by data signal length due to interference. However, serial keyboard with high anti-jamming and few lines is much freer from the length of data line. Both serial keyboard and parallel keyboard are feasible plans. 2.3 Main display screen Liquid crystal display (LCD) is generally adopted as ma fuel dispenser in display board of fuel dispenser recently because it is clean and beautiful in sunlight. In order to be visible at night, transparent or semi-transparent liquid crystal screen is adopted against matrix backlight board with light-emitting diode, which also have hearting function. Display usually adopts 6-6-4 type illustrated in Diagram 3-5, showing 6 digits on volume and money, 4 digits on unit price, each item data has two digits after decimal point. 0 = no check Please note that dispensers that do not permit the Max_Time_WO_Prog to be changed remotely should: Reject any write attempts with a Data_ACK value of 2 (Read OnlyNot Writable). 0 Must set the Max_Time_WO_Prog to the hardcoded maximum time without progress value. When a master resetcold start occurs on the dispenser device the dispenser should reset this Data_Id to its default value. PCD Comment: Where the proprietary pump connected to the PCD can not support this timer function directly the PCD will have to implement its own watchdog timer to recognise when the timer has expired and then carry out the required actions. If the prop fuel dispenser rietary pump protocol doesn t differentiate between the STARTED pump state and a FUELLING pump state the PCD will not be able to recognize if a time out has occurred and hence will not be able to activate a stop command to the pump. In this case the PCD will not be able to support this functionality. However the PCD should still allow the CD to read and write this Data_Id as if the functionality were supported. odafone, the world s largest mobile operator, was published this week. Using texting to boost efficiency is not rocket science, but big savings can be achieved. Several trials carried out in England have found that the use of text-messaging reminders reduces the number of missed appointments with family doctors by 26-39%, for example, and the number of missed hospital appointments by 33-50%. If such schemes were rolled out nationally, this would translate into annual savings of £256m-364m. Text messages are also being used to remind patients about blood tests, clinics, scans and dental appointments. Similar schemes in America, Norway and Sweden have had equally satisfying results—though the use of text- message reminders in the Netherlands, where non-attendance rates are low, at 4%, had no effect other than to annoy patients. Text messages can also be a good way to disseminate public-health information, particularly to groups w fuel dispenser ho are hard to reach by other means, such as teenagers, or in developing countries where other means of communication are unavailable. Text messages have been used in India to inform people about the World Health Organisation s strategy to control tuberculosis, for example, and in Kenya, Nigeria and Mali to provide information about HIV and malaria. In Iraq, text messages were used to support a campaign to vaccinate nearly 5m children against polio. Finally, there are the uses of text-messaging as part of a treatment regime. These involve sending re fuel dispenser minders to patients to take their medicine at the right time, or to encourage compliance with exercise regimes or efforts to stop smoking. The evidence for the effectiveness of such schemes is generally anecdotal, however, notes Dr Rifat. More quantitative research is needed—which is why his team also published three papers this week looking at the use of mobile phones in health care in more detail. One of these papers, written in conjunction with Victoria Franklin and Stephen Greene of the University of Dundee, in fuel dispenser
